The aluminium Dremometer – there can only be one…and it comes from Solingen!

It was developed more than fifty years ago – the GEDORE DREMOMETER, made from aluminium. Back then, it was marketed under the RAHSOL brand, and even today remains unparalleled in torque wrench technology and is wholly manufactured in Solingen.

The manufacturing process commences in the metals warehouse at Richard Abraham Herder KG in Solingen. Precision aluminium profiles, far exceeding the requirements of the norm, are held in stock here in a wide range of sizes, ready for processing. The five-metre long bars are made from a special alloy and are first of all cut to the required length in a precision machine saw.
The cut lengths are then taken to the first CNC machine, where the aluminium block is drilled, milled and turned to its initial contours. In several machining steps, the blank is shaped to produce an ergonomic handle, the dial window and the holes for subsequent pinning of the cover. The torque wrench is now starting to take recognizable shape. Depending on the wrench size being produced, the machine takes between one and five minutes for each wrench.
The department employees refer to as the “silver line” houses various CNC machines for further processing. The head end of the Dremometer is milled, and the holes for the square drive and bearing pins are drilled. This is also where the cover, that protects the internal mechanism of the wrench, is made up from thin aluminium profiles.
The aluminium body of the torque wrench is now fully shaped and has all the holes required for the next stage of assembly. To ensure that everything progresses smoothly, the parts are accurately measured by a 3D coordinate measuring machine throughout the entire process. Each inaccuracy in the production process is revealed and monitored by this process. more...
