GEDORE red Wire Stripping and Crimping Tools

When working on cables and wires, several steps follow one another directly. The cable is cut to length, the insulation is removed to the appropriate length, the conductor is inspected and then connected to a terminal. GEDORE red covers these essential steps with various wire strippers and a crimping tool.

Wire Stripping Tools for Different Cable Cross-Sections

Not every wire stripper works according to the same principle. Conventional pliers are adjusted to the conductor. Automatic versions adjust themselves within their working range. Multifunctional tools combine several work steps.

The GEDORE red range includes the R28200185 wire stripper, the R28002204 multi-function wire stripper and the R28201165 StrippMax-Auto wire stripper.

Highlights:

  • conventional adjustment for clearly defined conductors
  • automatic adjustment for changing cross-sections
  • multifunctional tools for combined work steps
  • integrated cutting functions on suitable models
  • conductor inspection after stripping

Cutting, Stripping and Preparing Cables

Clean preparation begins with a straight cut. The insulation is then removed only to the length required by the subsequent terminal. A visual inspection follows before crimping. Cut strands or notches indicate an unsuitable setting or tool selection.

Crimping: Connecting Without Soldering

A crimping tool connects cables and connectors through the principle of plastic deformation, without the need for soldering. Once a stripped cable has been inserted into the metal sleeve of a terminal, the pliers press the components together with extremely high force. The jaws, also known as dies, feature specially shaped profiles such as square or hexagonal contours that deform the connector metal in a targeted manner. This precise mechanical pressure completely removes the air from the spaces between the components, creating what is known as a gas-tight connection. This permanently protects the sensitive copper strands from oxygen and moisture, preventing corrosion and ensuring consistently high electrical conductivity. To apply the enormous pressing force required easily by hand, modern crimping tools use an integrated lever mechanism. An integrated forced-locking mechanism also ensures consistent work quality, as the tool only opens automatically once the optimum and complete pressing force has been reached.

Crimping tools are used, for example, when installing photovoltaic systems. The GEDORE red R28902205 crimping tool is a specialist tool for precisely and safely crimping MC4® and MC4-Evo2 PV connectors onto solar cables. The tool covers the three most common cable cross-sections of 2.5 mm², 4.0 mm² and 6.0 mm². Thanks to its integrated lever mechanism, the pliers generate high crimping force with minimal effort, while ergonomic multi-component handles prevent the hands from slipping.

The GEDORE red R28002204 multi-stripping pliers with 5 functions

5 Functions in One Tool

Grip, strip, cut, separate and crimp with just one tool: The strengths of the R28002204 multi-function wire stripper lie in its plier head. It is designed to crimp several cable cross-sections, cut different wire diameters and strip several cable diameters directly with a single tool. In addition, it features a separation function for M3 and M3.5 thread sizes.

Answers to the Most Frequently Asked Questions

The conductor should be cleanly stripped and undamaged. The type of terminal, conductor cross-section and crimping tool must be compatible.

No corresponding VDE wire strippers are listed for the category considered here. VDE wire strippers are available within the GEDORE range.

Within its working range, it adjusts itself to different conductor cross-sections and reduces the need for individual adjustments.

Multifunctional models combine several work steps or functions. Conventional wire strippers focus more specifically on removing insulation.
