The 2-Component Handle
The 2-component handle is the ergonomic core element of GEDORE red screwdrivers. It consists of a hard supporting core and a soft, non-slip outer zone. This combination ensures that force is transferred securely and directly when tightening screws, while the soft handle layer reduces pressure points in the palm and makes working more comfortable over extended periods.
The direct connection between the handle and blade – the handle is moulded around the blade to form a solid unit – reliably prevents the handle from twisting under high torque. On selected versions, the pentagonal handle head also prevents the tool from rolling away on inclined work surfaces, a frequent and frustrating problem in everyday workshop use.

VDE screwdrivers are tested in accordance with the European standards EN 60900 / IEC 60900 and insulated for up to 1,000 V AC and 1,500 V DC. The key difference from conventional screwdrivers is not only the insulated handle, but the complete insulation of the entire blade. This protects the user even if the blade accidentally touches a live surface. Important: Every VDE tool must be individually tested. This means that not merely a sample from production is tested; each individual tool undergoes an electrical safety test. GEDORE VDE screwdrivers fully meet this requirement.
The correct drive profile depends exclusively on the screw to be tightened or loosened. Choosing the wrong profile can cause damage. Slotted is the oldest profile and is now used mainly in older systems, electrical installations and simple applications. Phillips PH is widely used in electronics, vehicle construction and consumer products. Pozidriv PZ is used in furniture construction, housebuilding and many European applications. PH and PZ are not interchangeable: Although they look similar, they differ in geometry. TX provides higher torque transmission with the same amount of effort and is increasingly used in vehicle technology, mechanical engineering and the electrical industry. Hexagon socket profiles are common in machine assembly and mechanical engineering. GEDORE offers all common profiles in different drive sizes and blade lengths.
The handle of a screwdriver has a direct influence on the force that can be transmitted, user fatigue and the safety of the connection. The third component is a hard plastic element that prevents the handle from twisting under high torque and ensures direct, loss-free power transmission. The ergonomic handle shape also allows either precise fingertip operation or powerful full-hand operation, depending on the task. VDE versions also feature complete insulation of the handle.
SLIM DRIVE refers to a design with a significantly smaller blade diameter than usual while maintaining full mechanical and electrical safety. This allows access to screws located deep inside narrow screw channels, housings or terminal blocks, where a standard screwdriver cannot be inserted because of its larger blade diameter. These versions are particularly useful for electrical installation, terminal work in control cabinets and electronics manufacturing. GEDORE also offers SLIM DRIVE versions in VDE quality, such as the VDE 2162 PH 2 for Phillips PH screws.
Offset screwdrivers are used whenever a straight screwdriver cannot be used because of limited space or an unfavourable screw arrangement. The drive angled at 90 degrees makes it possible to tighten or loosen screws in areas that are inaccessible with a straight tool, such as at the side of housings, behind sheet metal or in compact mechanical assemblies.
