Torque Wrenches for Trade and DIY

Whether changing a wheel, repairing a vehicle, carrying out assembly work or working in the workshop: A defined tightening torque ensures safe and reliable screw connections. GEDORE red torque wrenches are suitable for numerous applications where screws must be tightened neither too loosely nor with excessive force.

The design focuses on comfortable handling and easy-to-control adjustment. The release signal makes it clearly perceptible when the set torque value has been reached and supports safe working practices for a variety of applications.

  • Torque ranges from 5 to 550 Nm
  • Various square drives for different socket inserts
  • Versions with 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch, 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch drives
  • Controlled tightening with a clearly perceptible release signal
  • Suitable for vehicle maintenance, assembly, repair and servicing
  • Precise release accuracy of ± 3%

The GEDORE red All-Rounder:

GEDORE red offers torque wrenches for different torque values and applications. The portfolio is divided into three main categories, each designed for different precision and power ranges: The range starts at 5 Nm for smaller screw connections and extends to 550 Nm for demanding applications with higher tightening torques. This provides suitable models for delicate assembly work as well as vehicle repairs, machinery and demanding workshop tasks.

  • High precision: GEDORE red torque wrenches have a certified release accuracy of ± 3% of the set scale value. This even exceeds the strict requirements of DIN EN ISO 6789.
  • Excellent readability: A clearly legible scale, supported by a small additional display or magnifying function, allows precise adjustment in accurate 1 Nm increments.
  • Excellent feedback: When the target value is reached, the wrenches release with a clearly audible and perceptible signal, reliably preventing the screws from being overtightened.

The Mushroom Head

The through square drive, also known as a mushroom head, is a reversible drive element in the head of our GEDORE red torque wrenches. The square drive with the socket attached is inserted completely through the wrench head and positioned on the required side. This eliminates the need for a separate ratchet mechanism with a switching lever. Repositioning the square drive enables controlled tightening to the specified torque in both directions.

The absence of a fine-toothed switching mechanism makes the wrench head particularly robust. Dirt, dust and high loads have less impact on its function. At the same time, there is no risk of accidentally changing the working direction via a switching lever during use.

Advantages at a glance:

  • Controlled tightening in both directions with suitable models
  • Robust design without a sensitive switching mechanism
  • Highly resistant to dirt and loads
  • No accidental change of direction during work
  • Secure retention of the socket
  • Quick tool changes, depending on the version

Torque Wrench Sets

Torque wrench sets offer a coordinated combination of a torque wrench and suitable accessories. They make it easier to select the required components and keep tools organised during assembly, repair and maintenance. For DIY projects, vehicle work and everyday workshop use, sets are a practical solution when different socket inserts or square drives are used regularly.

Service-Highlights

Calibration, repair, product training and technical support

As a precision measuring instrument, a torque wrench should be calibrated at least once a year or after 5,000 operating cycles – whichever comes first. Immediate inspection is required after a fall or mechanical damage. GEDORE offers this service in its own DAkkS-accredited calibration laboratory in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018.

Yes. After use, the torque wrench should be returned to the lowest scale value. If the spring remains under tension permanently, its preload may change and affect measurement accuracy. This does not apply to versions that do not use a conventional compression spring.

With release-type torque wrenches, such as click-type wrenches, an audible and perceptible click indicates that the set value has been reached. As soon as this signal is triggered, the applied force must be stopped immediately. Continuing to tighten after the release can result in excessive torque and damage the screw connection.

The decisive factors are the required torque range, the square drive and the available installation space. The torque value to be set should be in the middle range of the scale, ideally between 20 and 80% of the maximum measurement range. GEDORE offers torque wrenches with square drives from 1/4 to 3/4 inch for a wide range of applications.

Torque wrenches are generally designed for controlled tightening of screw connections. Other tools should be used to loosen seized connections, as this can damage the release mechanism and affect calibration. However, versions expressly designed for clockwise and counter-clockwise tightening can be used in both directions.
