Solutions for Automotive Workshops

Automotive mechatronics technicians, diagnostic technicians, workshop managers and chassis specialists rely on controlled and efficient processes in their everyday work. Every movement has to be right. Workshops that also work with OEM parts (Original Equipment Manufacturer) quickly encounter mechanical and software-related limitations if the right tool is missing. Whereas standard wrench sets and a reliable torque wrench used to be sufficient, modern vehicles now require customised repair solutions. Original equipment manufacturers design components precisely for the limited installation space and technical specifications of a particular vehicle model. To install or remove these parts without damage and to comply precisely with the torques and tolerances specified by the manufacturer, standard tools are often unsuitable. OEM-compliant tools are developed precisely according to the design plans and specifications of automotive manufacturers. They ensure that an independent workshop can carry out repairs to the same level of quality and safety as an authorised brand dealership. GEDORE Automotive specialises in closing the gap between complex vehicle technology and everyday workshop requirements.

  • Exact OE cross-reference: Workshops can identify the precisely matching GEDORE special tool using the original part numbers of automotive manufacturers (OE numbers) or the engine code. This saves time during work preparation and prevents incorrect purchases.
  • Development close to the vehicle: In its own test workshops, GEDORE Automotive develops tools directly on current vehicle models. This means that manufacturer-specific features — such as extremely limited space in the engine compartment or sensitive aluminium chassis components — are incorporated into the tool design at an early stage.
  • Strong partnerships with original equipment manufacturers: Close cooperation with major automotive suppliers, such as Schaeffler and its REPXPERT service platform, results in special tools that are perfectly matched to complex OEM components such as dual clutches, drivetrains and wheel bearing units.

Safely Compressing Springs and Struts

When working on strut-type axles, the focus is on controlled management of the stored spring energy. GEDORE Automotive spring compressors compress McPherson struts at defined contact points on the damper tube or spring seat — not directly on the spring coils. This protects the spring coating and reduces the risk of slipping during the compression process.

The self-locking design reliably holds the strut in position and enables the controlled removal and installation of springs, dampers and top mounts. Thanks to the stationary design, the operator can work upright, with both hands free and following a clearly defined process. This increases safety, ergonomics and efficiency during chassis repairs.

Working on Control Arm Bushings Directly on the Vehicle

When replacing control arm bushings, the correct force transmission is crucial for a clean and material-friendly repair process. The tool must be positioned securely on the component, while the pressure and support elements must match the geometry of the bushing and the chassis component. Removing and installing bushings directly on the vehicle can avoid unnecessary disassembly and reduce repair time. To do this, the vehicle, bushing position, pressing direction and permitted contact surfaces must first be clearly determined. Modular mechanical or hydraulic control arm bushing tools are used for these tasks. One example from the GEDORE Automotive range is the KL-0039-413 K. Depending on the repair case, suitable pressure pieces, adapters and drives are combined.

Removing and Installing Wheel Hubs and Wheel Bearings Correctly

Wheel bearing work begins with a diagnosis: Is the unit contaminated, corroded, bonded or secured by a retaining ring? Depending on the design, the appropriate choice is then made between a wheel hub puller, wheel bearing installation tool, pressure sleeves and a hydraulic drive. During removal, the force should be applied as controllably as possible and through the intended contact surfaces. During installation, the correct contact surfaces must be used to prevent damage to seals, sensors and bearing raceways. Before installation, the contact surfaces must be cleaned. After installation, the manufacturer’s specifications for securing the assembly and tightening torque must be followed. GEDORE Automotive wheel bearing tools are designed precisely for these requirements. Wheel hub pullers such as the KL-0041-380 EA loosen particularly seized wheel hubs.

Reliable Assembly Processes in Passenger Car Production

In series production, work steps must be carried out reliably, consistently and within clearly defined tolerances. Reproducible results, precise torques and ergonomic movement sequences are therefore crucial for consistently high assembly quality. At the same time, tools must be safe, fast and intuitive to use, even at high cycle rates.

GEDORE tools support a wide range of tasks throughout the assembly process — from controlled screw tightening and work on hard-to-reach components to finishing, rework and quality inspection. Depending on the application, torque tools, reversible ratchets, sockets, pliers and vehicle-specific special tools can be selected to match the installation space, component and process specification.

Maintaining Controlled Torque Values

Correct torque is a central part of the assembly process. The tightening value, tolerance, screw joint, tool drive and inspection interval must match the respective connection and process specification. Thread conditions, friction, lubrication and the use of extensions also influence the actual torque applied.

For traditional assembly and service work, a mechanical, click-type torque wrench is a suitable choice. The TORCOFIX K TF-K200 combines a measuring range of 40 to 200 Nm with a 1/2-inch drive and an integrated ratchet function. With the TF-K, the tightening direction can be changed simply by repositioning the square drive. The release accuracy of ±3% is confirmed by a test certificate in accordance with DIN EN ISO 6789-2. This makes the TORCOFIX K particularly suitable for recurring screw joints where precise and traceable manual tightening is required.

If digital recording of tightening data is also required, the E-torc P electronic torque and angle wrench can be used for production and assembly. It supports documented tightening processes by allowing work plans to be specified and measurement data to be stored and transferred via an interface to higher-level production and management systems. This means that screw joints can not only be tightened, but also traced and documented as part of quality assurance.

VDE Tools for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles

Working on high-voltage systems requires maximum safety and structured processes. The appropriate tool may only be used after the system has been safely de-energised and the absence of voltage has been verified. GEDORE supports workshops and high-voltage specialists with well-organised, VDE-certified profile solutions in accordance with DIN EN 60900 for daily service work.

For workshops and service areas that regularly work on hybrid and electric vehicles, a centrally organised complete equipment solution is ideal. The 103-piece tool trolley with high-voltage assortment, KL-4600-200, combines a mobile workstation with an extensive VDE tool assortment. For a flexible introduction or as an addition to existing workshop equipment, the HYBRID VDE tool set with KL-4600-10 Z extension is suitable. The set is specifically designed for work on hybrid and electric vehicles and combines insulated tools with an application-specific addition for typical work on electrified vehicles.

2.3 Tonnes of Clamping Force: The KL-5901 Spring Compressor

Strong chassis springs present high demands when removing and installing McPherson struts. SUVs, pick-ups and electric vehicles in particular require high spring forces to be managed safely and in a controlled manner. The stationary KL-5901 spring compressor from GEDORE Automotive is designed for a clamping force of 22,500 N, equivalent to approximately 2.3 tonnes. At the same time, the design offers fourfold safety protection and has been tested by an independent body with a load of more than 9.0 tonnes. For this combination of high clamping force and a safe, controlled compression process, the KL-5901 was nominated for the Innovation Award at Automechanika 2026.

About the Product
GEDORE Automotive E-Drive Stator Lift

Repair Instead of Replace: E-Drive Stator Lift

One of the key challenges when dismantling electric motors is separating the rotor from the stator. High radial magnetic forces and extremely small clearances between the components make controlled disassembly highly demanding without suitable mechanical assistance. This is where the E-Drive Stator Lift, winner of the 2024 Automechanika Innovation Award, comes in. The stator is withdrawn from the axially fixed rotor while maintaining the radial clearance. The rotor is precisely centred and secured, while the high rigidity of the motor-driven device ensures that the separation process is guided accurately. The rotor and stator are separated without making contact, preventing damage to these sensitive components.

Zu den Radlager-Werkzeugen

Modern compact passenger car wheel bearings (Gen. 2) must never be loaded via the wheel hub or the inner bearing ring during pressing, as this immediately damages the raceways inside the bearing. The GEDORE Automotive wheel bearing installation tool engages precisely on the outer bearing ring. This transfers the force in a material-friendly manner and reliably prevents damage to the new component.
