GEDORE Electric Gate Valve Wrenches
Gentle operation of large valves in network operation
GEDORE electric gate valve wrenches are designed for regular use in maintenance, overhaul and commissioning work. Their design is based on clear functional criteria:
- Consistent power supply: With a direct connection to the 230 V AC mains supply, the selected torque is available continuously. This enables long operating cycles on large valves up to size DN 1,000 without any loss of performance.
- Electronically controlled planetary gearbox: GEDORE does not use mechanical slip clutches in these models. Torque limitation and shut-off are controlled purely electronically via the backlash-free planetary gearbox. This reduces mechanical wear and ensures consistent shut-off accuracy over long periods.
- Integrated spindle protection: An electronic soft start ensures a smooth build-up of force during start-up. As soon as the valve reaches the preset end stop or the system detects resistance, the motor switches off automatically to prevent damage to the spindle.
Applications
- Waterworks and wastewater treatment plants: Regular maintenance and inspection cycles on gate valve assemblies and inlets with a local power supply.
- Pipeline and plant construction: Initial commissioning, functional testing and acceptance of newly installed valves.
- Industrial and power plant facilities: Overhaul work on cooling water and process circuits during scheduled shutdowns.
Unlimited operating time when connected to the power grid
As no battery management or charging times are required, the electric version is suitable for extensive, scheduled maintenance programmes. The machines can be operated from standard household sockets or outdoors using suitably dimensioned power generators.
Ergonomics and Occupational Safety
The motorised operation reduces the physical strain on personnel during demanding work. The motor housing can be rotated through 360°, allowing the machine to be flexibly adapted to on-site conditions, for example in confined valve chambers. Suitable torque supports are included in the scope of delivery. They transfer the reaction forces that occur mechanically into the ground or to the gate valve crosshead, meaning that the operator only needs to stabilise the tool.
Variants of the Electric Gate Valve Wrenches
LDE-S: The Straight Design
The straight LDE-S is normally selected when gate valves are operated directly from above using a long telescopic extension rod and there is sufficient freedom of movement for the operator around the chamber opening.
- Design: Drive motor, gearbox and output square drive arranged on a straight longitudinal axis.
- Torque range: LDE-075S or LDE-09S from 90 Nm to 900 Nm.
- Torque: Precise, electronically controlled shut-off with a deviation of better than ±3%.
- Power supply: Conventional mains operation via 230 V AC.
- Housing protection: Robust, construction-site-ready housing with splash-water protection for use in damp valve chamber environments.
LEW-S: The Angled Design
The angled LEW-S is the solution for difficult-to-access locations. When gate valves need to be operated in confined valve chambers, directly next to walls or beneath pipelines, the angled design saves valuable installation height and enables a safer grip on the tool.
- Design: 90° angle-head construction.
- Torque range: From 90 Nm up to a maximum breakaway torque of 900 Nm.
- Ergonomic reaction arm: Makes it easier to absorb the reaction forces.
- Control electronics: Microprocessor-controlled automatic shut-off electronics, soft start and reaction arm relief after stopping.

Answers to the Most Frequently Asked Questions
The standard electric models are designed to be connected to a standard 230 V AC mains supply. They can therefore be operated from any standard household socket in workshops and wastewater treatment plants, or via a suitably dimensioned extension cable in the vicinity of buildings.
Protecting the valve has top priority. The machine features an electronic soft start that prevents sudden build-up of force. In addition, the high-precision automatic shut-off immediately stops the motor as soon as the gate valve reaches the end stop or encounters a blockage in the pipe. This effectively prevents the spindle from seizing or breaking.
Thanks to the constant power supply and the considerable power reserves of the high-performance gearboxes, the electric gate valve wrenches can safely operate large valves up to size DN 1,000 without any loss of performance.
Mechanical slip clutches wear due to friction and heat every time they engage. Over time, this causes the shut-off torque to become inaccurate and the clutch to require costly maintenance or replacement. GEDORE instead uses purely electronic torque shut-off in combination with a backlash-free planetary gearbox. This system operates without mechanical wear, maintains precision over the long term and significantly reduces maintenance costs.
