GEDORE High-Torque Cordless Wrenches
LDA and LAW: High Torque for Large Components
High-torque wrenches are specially developed for bolted connections where conventional handheld tools reach their limits. They transfer high torques to the bolted connection in a controlled manner, thereby making it easier to assemble and maintain large components.
GEDORE high-torque cordless wrenches, made in Germany, are designed for demanding bolting applications in industrial environments:
- Assembly of tower flanges and rotor blades on wind turbines
- Bolted connections in steel and bridge construction
- Assembly and maintenance of large components, rolling mills and presses
- Bolted connections on turbines, generators and thermal power plant systems
- Maintenance of plate heat exchangers using special electric side power wrenches
- Flange connections in the oil and gas industry
- Maintenance of large machines and systems
The New Generation LDA/LAW Cordless Wrench
Powerful and flexible – and with each new generation significantly smaller, lighter and more intelligent than its predecessor. The development team of our specialists in high-torque bolting technology at GEDORE Torque Solutions continuously advances the LDA series (straight design) and the LAW series (angled design). This continuous product development is largely based on feedback from our customers and is specifically tailored to their practical requirements. The third generation of our high-torque cordless wrench is now available on the market.
In addition to the analogue LDA3/LAW3 cordless wrench, the digital version of the high-torque cordless wrench is also available. The LDA3/LAW3 Solution Core impresses with its immediate readiness for use, maximum user-friendliness and uncompromisingly ergonomic design. The motor unit can be rotated through 360°, making it easier to work in areas that are difficult to access. Steplessly adjustable torque control ensures maximum precision. Combined with a brushless motor, a robust two-speed gearbox and a powerful 18-volt lithium-ion battery, the wrench delivers powerful performance – while saving valuable time in everyday work.

Answers to the Most Frequently Asked Questions
As high-torque wrenches transfer enormous forces of several thousand Newton metres to the bolt, an equally large counter-torque is generated and acts on the tool. No person could ever hold this force by hand. The reaction arm, also known as a torque support, safely absorbs this counterforce by bracing itself against an adjacent component or bolt. To prevent the tool from becoming jammed after the tightening process, GEDORE tools feature an automatic release function that briefly relieves the gearbox after shut-off, allowing the tool to be repositioned safely.
The main difference lies in the precision and operating principle. An impact wrench works with pulsating, hammering impulses. Although it is fast, it is not suitable for precise torque values due to its high tolerances. A GEDORE high-torque wrench, on the other hand, operates continuously and rotationally, with virtually no vibration. This is the only way to control the torque precisely, switch the tool off electronically and guarantee repeatability of less than ±3%, as required for bolting applications that require documentation.
A high-torque wrench is an industrial tool for the controlled tightening and loosening of large bolted connections. It transfers high torque precisely to the bolt and is used wherever high tightening forces, repeatability and process reliability are required. Terms such as “industrial wrench”, “torque wrench”, “power wrench” or “flange wrench” are also commonly used.
Hydraulic torque tools are used for extremely high forces well above 10,000 Nm, but they require a heavy external power pack. Electric torque wrenches provide continuous performance for stationary operation with mains power. High-torque cordless wrenches offer maximum flexibility without disruptive cables or hoses. Thanks to modern brushless technology and high-performance batteries, GEDORE cordless models now cover a range from 60 to 8,000 Nm and are in no way inferior to corded systems in terms of power.
The LDA is a straight-design high-torque cordless wrench for easily accessible bolting points from above or from the side. The LAW is angled and designed for axially restricted spaces.
To guarantee the required precision over the long term, high-torque wrenches used in industrial applications should be calibrated at least once a year or after approximately 5,000 to 10,000 bolting applications – whichever comes first. The ISO 6789 and VDI/VDE 2645 guidelines serve as a reference. GEDORE Torque Solutions supplies every new tool with an individual factory test certificate. In Solution models, the integrated software also ensures that the calibration status of the tool is stored in a tamper-proof manner directly in the digital bolting record.
Solution models are designed for controlled and documented bolting applications. Depending on the product family, they feature a display and operator guidance, documentation functions, bolting records, as well as modules for quality assurance and traceability.
The high-torque electric torque wrenches achieve torque accuracy of better than ±3%. The GDA assembly cordless wrench offers repeatability of ±3%.
