Tools for the Challenges of Railway Technology
Tools used in track maintenance must withstand wind, weather, gravel dust and enormous leverage forces, while the maintenance of multiple-unit trains, high-speed trains and carriages requires the highest level of mechanical precision. GEDORE develops professional solutions that combine exceptional mechanical durability with uncompromising occupational safety and digital process documentation. From mechanical classics to cordless high-torque tools and high-end electronic torque tools, we provide the foundation for smooth and safe railway operations.
Maintaining Rail Vehicles: Digital Precision and Length Independence in the Workshop
Wheelset bearings, braking systems and couplings on rail vehicles must withstand extreme dynamic loads over long periods. Their installation requires highly precise torque values in the XXL range, which must be documented rigorously. Alongside the mechanical, length-independent GEDORE DREMOMETER classic, the digital premium solution is also used here: the electronic GEDORE E-torc P torque wrench. It measures torque and angle and stores all data completely. This allows highly sensitive safety-critical connections on high-speed trains, for example, to be tightened precisely according to the manufacturer’s specifications. The quality data can also be transferred wirelessly directly to the maintenance database—an invaluable advantage for traceability during rail vehicle repairs.
Railway Network Maintenance and Track Construction: Cordless Power for Large Bolts on Tracks and Switches
When repairing and assembling track systems, safe, precise and reliable bolted connections are essential. Our LDA3 and LDA3 Solution Core support the controlled and reproducible tightening of connections to defined torque values.
Precisely adjusted preload force and consistent tightening results are crucial for the safety, stability and service life of track connections. These solutions enable reliable torque transmission and support efficient work processes directly in the track area.
The applications include, in particular:
- the assembly and disassembly of track connections
- the repair of rails and track systems
- tightening rail fastenings
- work on switches and track components
- maintenance work in railway construction and infrastructure projects
Even in confined spaces and demanding construction-site conditions, bolted connections can be tightened precisely, safely and repeatedly.
Safety on Overhead Lines and Signalling Technology: Certified Protection in the Field
Railway network maintenance involves more than heavy track construction. It also includes work on electrified infrastructure, signal boxes and overhead lines. For this sensitive area, GEDORE offers a comprehensive range of insulated VDE tools. These are rigorously tested in accordance with EN 60900 / IEC 60900 and individually tested in a water bath at 10,000 V. Whether it is the universal GEDORE VDE pliers wrench, 10 inches, model VDE 183, which replaces an entire set of open-ended spanners, or complete VDE torque tool assortments in a tool trolley, these insulated VDE tools provide reliable protection when working up to 1,000 V. They also ensure that maintenance operations on electronic components can be carried out safely and efficiently.

Answers to the Most Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. GEDORE offers recalibration in its own DAkkS-accredited laboratory—for both mechanical and electronic torque wrenches. This maintains measurement accuracy throughout the entire service life without requiring the device to be replaced.
The insulation should be checked regularly for visible damage. Deep cuts, cracks or exposed yellow base material are clear signs that the tool must be replaced. If in doubt, replace it rather than take a risk.
Hydraulic power units require a power supply, hoses and maintenance, which is often impractical on open stretches of track. The GEDORE LDA operates completely independently with a lithium-ion battery, is ready for immediate use and delivers up to 6,000 Nm of controlled torque without requiring infrastructure in the track bed.
Mechanical wrenches such as the GEDORE DREMOMETER are length-independent, robust and ready for immediate use. Electronic wrenches such as the GEDORE E-torc P also record the angle of rotation and store all measured values, making them ideal wherever bolted connections must be documented comprehensively.
