GEDORE Wrenches

GEDORE’s history began with wrenches in 1919. To this day, this tool category remains one of the company’s core areas of expertise. The range extends from classic open-end, ring and combination wrenches to ring ratchet wrenches, striking wrenches and special wrenches for specific applications. Precise nominal dimensions, durable materials and manufacturing designed for continuous professional use provide the basis for reliable power transmission in assembly, industry and maintenance.

Precision, Dimensional Accuracy and Exact Fit

A precisely fitting wrench reliably transmits the available torque and therefore supports controlled work. Precise manufacturing ensures a secure fit on the screw and reduces the load on both the wrench and screw head.

  • Full transmission of the available torque
  • Minimal manufacturing tolerances for a perfect fit on the screw
  • Profiles that protect the screw head
  • Longer service life for both screw and wrench

GEDORE quality wrenches are designed for demanding continuous use and maximum safety. Their high bending strength makes them reliable tools in workshops, assembly and service. GEDORE wrenches do not splinter when overloaded. Instead, they indicate incorrect use through deformation. This reduces the risk of injury and makes it visible when a tool has been subjected to loads outside its intended range of use.

Further advantages for professional use:

  • High bending strength
  • No splintering under overload – deformation makes incorrect use visible
  • Secure grip, even with oily hands
  • Non-glare appearance thanks to matt chrome plating

Every Wrench Type Has a Clear Purpose

GEDORE does not simply manufacture wrenches in different shapes and sizes. Every wrench type is based on a specific idea: a well-designed solution that makes the respective application easier, safer and more efficient. Versatile all-rounders, specialists for deeply recessed nuts or powerful double open-end wrenches – the design consistently follows the requirements of professional users. Geometry, profile and surface finish work together to create tools that deliver their strengths exactly where they are needed.

No. 7: The Perfect Wrench Combination

In the 7 R and 7 UR ratcheting combination wrenches, GEDORE combines the advantages of U-20 ratchet technology with the proven characteristics of the No. 6 double open-end wrench and the slim No. 7. The result is a high-performance combination of functionality, slim design and reliable power transmission. The ratcheting wrench therefore supports efficient work even where space is limited and every movement counts.

Non-glare appearance with a secure grip: The surface of the ratcheting wrench is designed to be as functional as it is ergonomic for professional use. The matt chrome plating provides a non-glare appearance and gives the tool a resistant surface. At the same time, the finish supports a secure grip, even under demanding working conditions.

The ratchet: The particularly flat and robust ratchet is designed for demanding use and is also suitable for hard-to-reach areas. Proven U-20 ratchet technology is housed in a very flat ring head and enables efficient ratcheting when loosening and tightening. GEDORE’s pawl geometry keeps the return angle small, allowing work with short movements even in confined spaces.

The UD profile: The wave shape of the UD profile creates secure contact points between tool and screw. This supports gentle power transmission and provides additional grip, even when screw dimensions are outside the tolerance range.

The open end: The exact nominal dimension of the open end forms the basis for its high fitting accuracy. The secure fit on the screw reduces point loading on the screw head and therefore supports a longer service life for both screw and wrench.

The waisted shaft: The hollow profile of the waisted shaft enables fatigue-reducing work. At the same time, its special geometry transmits high forces, particularly with large wrench sizes. The shaft therefore combines low weight and comfortable handling with the stability required for demanding applications.

Advantages and Features at a Glance

The Ratcheting Wrench

A ring ratchet enables a screw connection to be turned step by step without having to remove and reposition the wrench completely after every movement. This is particularly advantageous for repetitive screwdriving movements and limited working space. The GEDORE 7 R and 7 UR ratcheting combination wrenches combine an open end with a ring ratchet in the same wrench size.

The 7 R has a flat design and is intended for ratcheting loosening or rapid tightening. On the 7 UR, the ring end is angled by 13° and is also reversible, allowing the direction of rotation to be changed directly on the wrench. Both versions feature the GEDORE UNIT-DRIVE profile and are designed for high torque transmission. With the separately available 7 RA or 7 RB adapters, the 7 R and 7 UR can also be used as ratchets for additional drives.

Improved Accessibility

The position of the ring helps determine whether a screw connection is easy to reach and whether sufficient clearance remains for the hand. Angled or offset wrench versions create distance between the wrench shaft and the screw plane. This makes deeply recessed nuts and screws easier to reach in particular.

On the 1 B combination wrench, the ring end is offset and angled by 10°. The slim, thin-walled ring makes it easier to access deeply positioned screw connections. At the same time, a characteristic reinforcing rib strengthens the slim shaft on the open-end side and provides additional stability for high torque. The open end, ground precisely to the nominal dimension, provides defined contact surfaces on the screw connection.

GEDORE UNIT-DRIVE

With high forces, it is not only the amount of transmitted torque that matters, but also how the force acts on the screw head or nut. The GEDORE UNIT-DRIVE profile uses enlarged, rounded contact surfaces. This distributes the force more evenly across the flanks of the screw head and reduces notch effects.

The larger contact area supports reliable force transmission even on screw heads whose dimensions are outside the tolerance range. At the same time, the load on the sensitive edges of the screw profile is reduced. This decreases the risk of rounding and supports secure tool contact even on already worn screw heads. According to GEDORE, the optimised force distribution allows up to 20 percent higher torque to be transmitted.

High-Tech for the Exact Nominal Size

Open-end wrenches have existed for as long as technology itself. However, traditional tools do not necessarily mean traditional manufacturing methods. Proven production processes are continuously developed further. GEDORE grinds the wrench openings to the exact nominal dimension using a high-tech grinding machine. With this zero-tolerance strategy, GEDORE achieves better values than required by DIN, the screw fits more securely and the full torque is transmitted.

Answers to the Most Frequently Asked Questions

An open-end wrench grips the screw from the side and is well suited to fast work, but provides less contact area. A ring wrench completely surrounds the screw and transfers force more evenly, but requires sufficient access around the screw head. A combination wrench combines both ends in one tool, making it the most versatile all-rounder for assembly and maintenance.

Striking wrenches are used when screw connections are seized or need to be loosened with greater force. A hammer blow to the wrench transfers the impact energy directly to the screw connection. Important: Only use suitable striking wrenches. Standard wrenches are not designed for this load and may break.

For confined spaces, angled versions such as the 25 PK double-ended socket wrench or angled socket wrenches such as the KL-0132-82 A are suitable. Ring ratchet wrenches with an articulated head, such as the KL-4443-30, also enable screws to be tightened and loosened where a straight wrench cannot be used.

Tensioning wrenches are special automotive tools used when adjusting or tensioning timing belts. They allow the tensioning roller to be operated precisely, even in confined engine compartments. GEDORE offers vehicle-specific versions, for example for VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda engines as well as other vehicle types.

Yes. The GEDORE range also includes imperial versions, such as the 1 B (AF) combination wrench with equal wrench sizes. These are particularly suitable for older machines, vehicles or systems from the UK or USA where metric wrenches do not fit.
