GEDORE Torque Multipliers and Torque Limiters

In mechanical engineering, plant engineering, heavy industry or assembly, screw connections may require the use of a torque multiplier to multiply the applied force or a torque limiter to protect machines, tools and components from damage caused by excessive forces.

Increase or Limit Torque as Required

GEDORE torque multipliers and torque limiters fulfil different tasks in controlled screw connections. Torque multipliers increase the input torque, enabling screw connections involving very high torques to be tightened or loosened in a controlled manner. They are used primarily in mechanical and plant engineering, energy and transport technology, as well as in maintenance and assembly work. Torque limiters, on the other hand, limit the torque of screwdrivers to a preset value. They are particularly suitable for repeatable screw connections in industrial assembly and manufacturing, where overtightening must be prevented.

DREMOPLUS Torque Multipliers

DREMOPLUS torque multipliers are operated mechanically and manually in combination with a torque wrench. A precision gearbox multiplies the applied input torque. The integrated reaction arm rests against a suitable fixed counter support and absorbs the resulting reaction torque. This allows high torques to be transferred in a controlled manner with less effort – without electricity or compressed air. Depending on the version, different torque ranges and reaction arm designs are available; the DREMOPLUS ALU DVV-13Z, for example, achieves up to 1,300 Nm, while models such as the DVV-40ZRS are designed for up to 4,000 Nm.

RTU Torque Limiters

GEDORE RTU torque limiters are used as connecting elements for screwdrivers. When the preset torque is reached, the precision mechanism slips through in a clearly perceptible manner. This prevents any further transfer of the set torque and supports consistent, repeatable screw connections. The RTU range includes, among others, the RTU 1 for 0.1 to 1 Nm, the RTU 4 for 0.6 to 4.5 Nm and the RTU 14 for 2 to 14 Nm. The advantages include controlled assembly processes, reliable protection against overload and reduced stress on components and threads.

Torque Service

Regular testing, calibration and professional maintenance ensure the functionality of torque tools and supplementary components. GEDORE Torque Service supports calibration, adjustment, repair and documented testing. This helps maintain accuracy and operational safety, even when tools are used frequently.

Electronic Torque Wrenches

Electronic torque wrenches enable precise measurement of torque and, depending on the version, the angle of rotation. In quality-relevant screwdriving processes, measured values can be stored, evaluated and documented. Combined with suitable testing and analysis equipment, they provide a traceable basis for process control and joint analysis.

Torque Wrenches

Torque wrenches provide the defined input torque for a mechanical torque multiplier. In combination with the appropriate multiplier, high output torques can be transferred to the screw connection in a controlled manner. The decisive factors are a suitable torque range, the appropriate drive connection and secure support via the reaction arm.

Answers to the Most Frequently Asked Questions

Torque multipliers are used when screw connections need to be tightened with high torques. They are used, among other applications, in mechanical engineering, plant engineering, bridge construction, shipbuilding, power plant construction and heavy industry.

A mechanical torque multiplier increases the input torque through a gearbox. The applied torque is transferred to the output torque using a defined gear ratio. A reaction arm absorbs the resulting counterforces.

A dynamic torque limiter limits the torque transferred during rotating screwdriving processes. This helps protect components and connecting elements from excessive loads.
