REACH and RoHS at GEDORE
Chemical regulatory requirements are an integral part of responsible product development at GEDORE. We take into account the requirements of the EU REACH Regulation and the RoHS Directive for the products we develop and place on the market. For us, transparency towards our customers and partners is an expression of our commitment to quality.
What is REACH?
Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, known as the REACH Regulation, has been in force since 1 June 2007 and applies directly in all Member States of the European Union. REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals. The Regulation harmonises European chemicals legislation and governs the handling of substances of very high concern.
For manufacturers and distributors of hand tools, REACH is particularly relevant if a product or one of its components contains a substance on the REACH Candidate List in a concentration of more than 0.1% by weight. In this case, there is an obligation to provide information to customers.
RoHS
Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment
The RoHS Directive restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. The current version is Directive 2011/65/EU. It applies to products that fall within its scope and contain relevant electrical or electronic components.
All GEDORE products that fall within the scope of the RoHS Directive comply with the applicable requirements in force.
Notice on Lead in GEDORE Tools
In accordance with Article 33 of REACH
Some items in the GEDORE range contain components with a lead content exceeding 0.1% by weight. Lead may be present in certain steel, aluminium and brass alloys, particularly in free-cutting steels and free-machining brasses used for machining. Lead may also be used in certain aluminium alloys for technical reasons.
The components concerned are generally small individual parts within a product. These may include, for example, pins, rollers, axles, screws, nuts, bushes and rivets, as well as tool shanks, screw spindles, machined impact and screwdriver tools, and parts of measuring tools.
Following the inclusion of lead on the REACH Candidate List, manufacturers and distributors are required to inform their customers about the presence of lead. Commercial customers receive this information, for example, via an order confirmation or delivery note. Private end consumers may request this information.
Based on current knowledge, no special precautions are required when the products are used as intended.
