Torque Wrenches for Industry

In industrial manufacturing processes, the correct tightening torque determines the quality, safety and function of a screw connection. A GEDORE torque wrench supports reproducible workflows wherever defined torques must be maintained and documented. Applications include serial assembly, mechanical engineering, plant engineering, the automotive industry, as well as the servicing and maintenance of technical systems.

Even with demanding screwdriving tasks involving high torques, controlled power transmission and a reliable release mechanism are essential. Depending on the version, torque wrenches are available for controlled clockwise tightening or for clockwise and counter-clockwise tightening. Audible and perceptible release signals help users recognise the set value reliably and prevent unintentional overtightening.

Designed for industrial applications:

  • Controlled and repeatable tightening of screw connections
  • Versions for assembly, serial assembly, manufacturing, servicing and maintenance
  • Torque ranges for low, medium and high tightening torques
  • Robust designs for intensive use

Mechanical Torque Wrenches

Torque wrenches must be suitable for the respective screw connection, the available installation space and the intended tool. GEDORE therefore offers a wide range of torque wrenches with different torque ranges and holders.

The range extends from compact versions for lower tightening torques to large torque wrenches for industrial applications involving high torques. Depending on the model, different square drives are available, including 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch, 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch. This allows suitable socket inserts to be used for different sizes and screwdriving tasks.

Torque wrenches with tool holders are also available for special applications. These include insert holders with a defined centre-to-centre distance as well as pin holders for attachment tools. These designs allow different tool heads to be used and provide additional flexibility in confined installation spaces or with special screw connection geometries.

Whether you need a compact version for confined installation spaces, a robust tube torque wrench for assembly work or a large DREMOMETER for industrial screw connections, GEDORE offers suitable solutions for a wide range of requirements.

Controlled Clockwise and Counter-Clockwise Tightening: TORCOFIX

The GEDORE TORCOFIX is an adjustable, mechanically triggered click-type torque wrench based on a steel tube design. While the DREMOMETER is the highly specialised aluminium flagship for industry, the TORCOFIX series is an extremely popular all-rounder. It is used worldwide in vehicle workshops, for example when changing wheels, as well as for assembly work in the skilled trades and industry.

  • Controlled clockwise and counter-clockwise tightening: Torque wrenches generally release in only one direction. The TORCOFIX is designed for use in both directions. With the classic ratchet version (TF-K), simply pull the so-called mushroom-head square drive upwards and insert it again from the other side.
  • Precision exceeding the standard: The TORCOFIX is factory-adjusted to a maximum release deviation of only ±3% of the set scale value. This exceeds the requirements of DIN EN ISO 6789-2:2017.
  • Ergonomic handle with hand-centering aid: The handle has a convex shape. Since a tube torque wrench must always be held exactly in the centre to achieve an accurate measurement, the handle features a circumferential groove that serves as a hand-centering aid.
  • Quick and secure adjustment: A pull-out locking button is located at the end of the handle. Pulling it out allows the torque to be adjusted smoothly and precisely using a high-contrast, protected scale with Nm and lbf·ft markings. When the button is locked again, the value is reliably protected against adjustment.

Models for Every Application

  • TORCOFIX TF-K: The version with a reversible mushroom-head square drive is the classic model for use with socket inserts.
  • TORCOFIX TF-SE: The rectangular holder (9 x 12 mm or 14 x 18 mm) is designed for insert tools when the screw cannot be accessed from above.
  • TORCOFIX TF-Z: With a standardised pin holder (16 mm or 22 mm) for heavy attachment tools in industrial applications and confined installation spaces.

Length-Independent Accuracy in a Robust Aluminium Housing: DREMOMETER

The GEDORE DREMOMETER is a mechanical, release-type precision torque wrench specially developed for demanding industrial use and controlled tightening of screw connections. For decades, it has been regarded as the classic and flagship product in the GEDORE torque range.

  • Fully length-independent accuracy: With almost all torque wrenches, the hand must be positioned exactly in the centre of the handle. If the handle is held further forward or further back, or an extension tube is used, the lever arm changes and the wrench releases at the wrong value. Thanks to a special lever mechanism inside the DREMOMETER, the square drive and pivot point are aligned on one axis. This means the wrench can be operated with both hands, held at any point or fitted with an extension tube while the release value remains completely accurate.
  • Monobloc housing made of high-tech aluminium: While conventional wrenches are made of heavy steel tubes, the DREMOMETER housing is manufactured from a single piece of high-strength aluminium alloy. This makes it extremely light and exceptionally durable.
  • Precision exceeding the DIN standard: DIN EN ISO 6789 requires torque wrenches to have a maximum deviation of ±4%. GEDORE calibrates every DREMOMETER at its Remscheid plant to a standard maximum deviation of ±3%.

Models for Specific Requirements:

  • DREMOMETER A+S: This version features an additional mechanical locking mechanism to prevent unauthorised or accidental adjustment of the torque. It is ideal for production lines and workshops where work is carried out with a fixed torque.
  • DREMOMETER L models: While the standard models have a single square drive, the L versions feature a through double square drive for controlled counter-clockwise tightening.
  • DREMOMETER Z: These models do not have a fixed square drive for socket inserts. Instead, they feature a standardised 16 mm or 22 mm pin holder with a quick-change system.
  • DREMOMETER T-FS: These preset wrenches have no visible scale and cannot be adjusted by the user. They are permanently adjusted at the factory or in the in-house calibration laboratory to a fixed Nm value.
  • DREMOMETER MINI: Designed for highly precise low-torque screw connections, for example in apparatus engineering, electrical engineering or when assembling sensitive housing components, this ultra-compact version covers the lowest torque range from 2.5 to 12 Nm.

Electronic Torque Wrenches

GEDORE electronic torque wrenches are used wherever maximum safety, extreme accuracy and complete documentation are required. Unlike mechanical tools, they measure forces digitally using highly precise sensors, often with a deviation of only ±1%. Thanks to integrated gyroscopic sensors, the wrenches measure not only torque but also the exact angle of rotation in a single operation. Top models such as the GEDORE E-torc series store every torque achieved internally. The data can be transferred directly to production systems via an interface, ensuring complete traceability for certified quality standards.

System Integration in Production: E-Torc P

The GEDORE E-torc P is GEDORE’s production solution among electronic torque and angle-controlled wrenches. It was specially developed for connected industrial production, quality assurance and serial assembly, where every individual screw connection is safety-relevant and must be fully documented. Eight models cover a total torque range from 1 to 1,000 Nm. They are available either with the typical SE rectangular holder, such as 9 x 12 mm or 14 x 18 mm, or with the Z pin holder for heavy attachment tools.

  • Comprehensive connectivity and MES integration: The E-torc P communicates via WLAN at 2.4 and 5 GHz and optionally via Zigbee. Using open industry standards such as the Open Protocol, it can be integrated directly into existing manufacturing execution systems (MES). Work plans can be uploaded wirelessly and completed measurement data transmitted to the plant’s IT system in real time.
  • Extensive data storage: The wrench can store up to 9,999 measurement results and an additional 100 complete tightening curves locally. If the wireless connection briefly drops out in the production hall, no legally defensible quality record is lost.
  • Industrial battery concept with wireless charging: The E-torc P uses standardised, replaceable lithium-ion batteries in the classic 18650 format. It can be charged via USB-C or completely wirelessly using an inductive charging station that is also suitable for wall mounting in the workshop.
  • Integrated 2D scanner: The operator scans the code on the component using the integrated barcode and QR-code scanner. The tool immediately recognises the stored work plan, calls up the exact joint and automatically sets the correct Nm and angle values.
  • 360° visible LED ring: In addition to the viewing-angle-stable 2-inch IPS colour display, the wrench features a continuous LED ring. This clearly indicates the progress of the tightening process.

Insert Tools for Torque Wrenches

Insert tools expand the torque wrench with different tool heads for special screw connections. Depending on the version, these may include open-end wrenches, combination wrenches or other insert solutions. The defined centre-to-centre distance ensures a coordinated connection with the torque wrench and enables precise adaptation to different wrench sizes and working areas.

Attachment Tools for Torque Wrenches

Attachment tools are suitable for torque wrenches with a pin holder or comparable holding systems. Different tool heads allow the wrench to be adapted to the respective screw connection. Depending on the version, the working head can be aligned forwards or to the side. This provides additional flexibility at difficult-to-access screw connections in assembly, manufacturing, servicing and maintenance.

Answers to the most frequently asked questions

As a precision measuring instrument, a torque wrench should be calibrated at least once a year or after 5,000 operating cycles – whichever comes first. Immediate inspection is required after a fall or mechanical damage. GEDORE offers this service in its own DAkkS-accredited calibration laboratory in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018.

Yes. After use, the torque wrench should be returned to the lowest scale value. If the spring remains under tension permanently, its preload may change and affect measurement accuracy. This does not apply to versions that do not use a conventional compression spring.

With release-type torque wrenches, such as click-type wrenches, an audible and perceptible click indicates that the set value has been reached. As soon as this signal is triggered, the applied force must be stopped immediately. Continuing to tighten after the release can result in excessive torque and damage the screw connection.

The decisive factors are the required torque range, the square drive and the available installation space. The torque value to be set should be in the middle range of the scale, ideally between 20 and 80% of the maximum measurement range. GEDORE offers torque wrenches with square drives from 1/4 to 3/4 inch for a wide range of applications.

Torque wrenches are generally designed for controlled tightening of screw connections. Other tools should be used to loosen seized connections, as this can damage the release mechanism and affect calibration. However, versions expressly designed for clockwise and counter-clockwise tightening can be used in both directions.
