GEDORE and ÖKOPROFIT

As part of the ÖKOPROFIT programme, the participating companies took part in workshops on environmental and resource protection. At the end of the programme, an individual environmental action plan was developed for each company, consisting of specific measures that lead to demonstrable improvements and savings in resources and costs.

GEDORE successfully completed the programme and, following the final assessment and certification in October 2023, received official recognition as an ÖKOPROFIT company.

Energy savings through LED lighting and process optimisation

GEDORE laid the foundations for systematic resource conservation even before officially joining the ÖKOPROFIT programme. Two key measures demonstrate how technical investment can translate directly into measurable environmental benefits.The installation of LED lighting at two plants reduced electricity consumption by 103,000 kWh and cut CO² emissions by 49.44 tonnes. An even greater impact was achieved by adjusting the control system for the forging furnaces: by streamlining shift and production times for the most energy-intensive machines, GEDORE saved 1.5 million kWh of gas, corresponding to a reduction in CO² emissions of 370.5 tonnes.

Efficient processes through modern technology

Further targeted efficiency measures were implemented in 2023. Optimising compressed-air generation with modern compressors enabled savings of up to 192,000 kWh of electricity, equivalent to 92.16 tonnes of CO². The introduction of an energy management system in accordance with DIN ISO 50001 also established the structural basis for systematically recording and further reducing energy consumption, although the resulting savings cannot be quantified directly. In addition, the use of metalworking fluids in machining was made more efficient. This increased machine service life by up to 40 per cent, while also saving 20,000 litres of metalworking-fluid emulsion.

Raising awareness and conserving resources

Sustainability efforts continued consistently throughout 2024 and 2025. A driver safety training course for field sales employees promotes fuel-efficient driving while also helping to prevent accidents. Energy Scouts were also trained through the Chamber of Industry and Commerce to identify potential savings within the company even more effectively in the future. In addition, the use of steel as a material in the forging and machining production areas was analysed. The aim was to reduce both material and energy consumption, while using and recovering materials more efficiently.

Sustainability as an ongoing process

We do not regard sustainability as a project that can simply be completed, but as an ongoing process. Beyond the measures already implemented, we are continuously working to further reduce energy and resource consumption, make processes more efficient and identify new opportunities to promote sustainability in production and day-to-day working life. Further measures are already being planned and will be implemented step by step.
